Webmasters Tips - Website Development Tips Forum moderation: a time to be strict, a time to be lenient Some forums are moderated in a strict way. If a person asks a question that is either answered in the forum FAQ or forbidden by the forum FAQ, that person's topic may be ended or deleted quickly. When might this be desirable? Perhaps strict moderation should be used if it seems quite likely that members could go off-topic or abuse the forum. If there is a history of problems, then strict moderation might be appropriate. Other forums have very little moderation. While this can lead to the same questions being asked over and over, disorganized topics, and other forms of abuse, it may be appropriate at times. Lenient moderation is democratic. It asserts that a forum is open, and that it welcomes inqueries. Unlike the above example, it gives the impression that anyone can ask just about any question and expect an answer. (Generally, that is good, but there are exceptions.)
